Okay, Fixed and all I did, thanks to your insight, is to right click on the folder hanging out on its own and choose 'Show Parent Folder.' That did it. It now shows the wayward folder as a sub folder of the year, which, in fact, it is in at the finder level. Thank you for leading me to the. solution.

Here is a more expanded screenshot of the folde level showing that indeed the images are in the correct folder but Lightroom ignores that and puts the 'originals' folder at the same level as where the 'year' folder should be showing....

Okay, I'm settling in to look at this and my first question is how do I find the 'disk hierarchy for what Lightroom is seeing in the second screen shot. I will go to the finder level but that is what is showing with the third screen shot and it's not like what Lightroom is showing at all.

I will tackle this. I wasn't sure if I should delete the files that were transferred and start over again, but your link and comments here are more encouraging that this can be fixed. I don't see any difference in spelling 'yet' and I'll follow the path as you suggest. Mostly, I want to thank you for responding as, yes, this seems daunting. I will set the time aside this afternoon to do a proper job of sorting it out.

It does not even show the 2026 Folder, where it is supposed to be inside of. I've tried shutting down the computer and restarting,but everything is the same. I don't want to go on for the rest of the shoots I have planned until this is resolved. It's like Lightroom has its own idea of how things should be and I have no control over it.

For some reason, importing the first folder for the new year, which should be showing in library inside the folder for 2026, came in showing the 'originals' folder outside on its own and not properly nested. How can I fix this?

I am not allowed to edit the original post but it is the preview cashe size that will take over my hard drive if I don't limit the size in preferences, which I've done, but it still wants me to increase the size which I don't want.

Lightroom gives me this warning every time it starts up but I've already learned the hard way that if I don't limit the number of backups it will take over and flood my hard drive with endless backups which I don't want. A few recent backups is all I would ever want and actually have never used a catalog backup in all of the years I've used Lightroom. What do the experts say, just ignore this worning and continue to work with Lightroom and enjoy saving precious hard drive space?

Images show forground selected for luminance, vary dark areas, but part of the selection I do not want to alter. Is there a way to 'erase' the part of the mask I want to remove? Being able to use the brush tool like an eraser for this would be wonderful. Second image shows without mask selection to show, only the very dark branches to the right to I want to brighten slightly.

I have this existing photo which is a still. From what I see for the Adobe MAX presentation, I can type in 'Animate dog and make it dance to peppy music' from this image. I have a lot to learn but have the vision and want to present to potential clients as motivation to start new projects. I'm usding the Lens panel in Lightroom Classic to clear up chormatic aberrations and fringing. Under the menu Profile it only has less than a dozen older Canon lenses and nothing of the newer RF models. I think I must be missing profiles but I don't know how to find the profiles, do they need to be dowloaded or shouldn't they be already included in Lightroom? I have the latest version. How do I bring in the newer profiles so they will show and can be used?

Ah, so it converts to 32 bit and that is what is throwing me a curve. Thank you for explaining. I'm wondering about the message I get on screen and what settings in 'preferences' (there is no longer a 'preferences' on the Mac but is 'settings' which one of the long list of settings contains what I need to enable corrrect display?

HDR was never to my liking as too much AI effect but now I've been awakened by accidentally touching the HDR button in Photoshop on this image... Wow, it fits! And heres my two questions: 1.) a message comes on screen saying I do not have my HDR display settings enabled in preferenes, I do not want to mess with how it already looks so what and where are these 'settings' and should I even touch them if I'm already happy? And 2.) I cannot use generative expand on this image in Photoshop, so I made a screen shot to get the expanded left side of the image I wanted and that worked. Why does generative Expand or Fill not work on this HDR image and how can I 'fix it' so that it works like a normal Photoshop image file? TIA, Ken

Thanks to everyone here, I was able to get good results from using the eyedropper tool in color range in masking. What a great thing to learn. Now if I could only figure out how to delete comments where I was trying to reply individuallly here but the posts transferred to another person. It's always something... Thanks again!

I previously went into preferences and limited the saved backups to 3 as I thought that was all that is necessary. Lightroom now keeps reminding me that it can make more backups and I have to keep dismissing. I do not, and don't think anybody wants Lightroom to grow into a monster that takes over your computer. Wouldn't this be an area that would be reasonable to make easier to control. It seems now I need to keep track of three things: previews, and then the other two which are contained in this thread as things I need to pay particular attention to so they don't grow into huge backups I don't need. Wouldn't it be good for Adobe to review this thread and the wisdom given here just to impliment clear and easy controls together and simply explained in preferences? I vote for this to be implemented soon as it is needed. As it is now, these things are out of control unless you are amongst the most advanced users.

Thank You, And I will add that this may be the most valuable single help file ever in my years of using Lightroom. I will definitely be studying and re-reading every response here as this subject is like the backbone of Lightroom... everything else hinges on understanding this 'inner-workings' or 'structure' component of Lightroom. I think I have enough information in these responses to move ahead with understanding now. Thank you all for brightening my day and my working future with Lightroom. I've got to include this question: what is the difference between 'previews' and 'presets' and can they both easily be eliminated from 'backups' of lcat data which I gather is the true backup of the catalog structure that links the entire Lightroom catalog together with the image files on disk?
